Brian Remler
Associate
Brian represents clients in environmental, regulatory compliance, toxic tort, product liability, permitting, construction, and complex litigation matters.
His transactional practice involves analyzing, allocating, and mitigating environmental issues arising in real estate deals, including those involving contaminated properties (or “Brownfields”). When his clients are considering buying, selling, leasing, developing, or investing in a Brownfield site, Brian helps cut through the complexities of environmental diligence to deliver practical advice tailored to the needs and experience of his clients and their respective businesses, including negotiating appropriate risk allocation devices (ex: indemnities) within leases, purchase and sale agreements, development or joint venture agreements, and loan documents. For sites requiring environmental cleanup, Brian helps his clients evaluate costs and benefits associated with different remediation techniques and regulatory frameworks, including programs like the Georgia Brownfield Program that can provide liability protections and/or recovery of environmental costs via tax incentives.
Brian also partners with clients to manage risk, seize business opportunities, and ensure compliance with a diverse array of federal, state and local environmental laws, including those relating to hazardous waste, occupational safety and health (including lead-based paint and asbestos issues), air, water and waste permitting, and other regulatory frameworks. Brian is a trusted advisor to small and large businesses alike, helping them achieve regulatory compliance under these regimes, as well as representing clients in state or federal enforcement actions. Regardless of when he is called upon to help, Brian aims to help his clients understand the practical implications of environmental regulations and develop long-term, business-facing solutions.
Prior to joining Evans Bowers, Brian was an Associate in the Environmental section at Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP (now Taft Law), a full-service law firm.
